QUTAYBA IBN MUSLIM IN THE DESCRIPTION OF IBN AL-ATHIRS “AL-KAMIL FI AL-TARIKH”
The article is devoted to the analysis of the activities of Qutayba ibn Muslim – an outstanding Umayyad military commander – based on the materials of the fundamental work by Ibn al-Athir “Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh”. The paper sequentially examines the main stages of his Central Asian campaigns: the reconciliation with Nizak Tarkhan, the battles for Baykand, Bukhara, Samarkand, Chach, Ferfhana, and Kashgar. Particular attention is paid to military strategy, diplomacy, and the consequences of the conguests for the region. The author emphasizes the historicalsignificance of Qutaybas campaigns in the process of the islamization and integration of Central Asia into the Arab Khaliphate.
