This thesis examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of using Mahmudkhoja Behbudi’s educational ideas to develop university students’ skills and habits for independent work with textbooks. It highlights the pedagogical significance of fostering a conscious approach to learning, reading habits, independent inquiry, and a scientific worldview within Jadid pedagogy. The study employs historical-pedagogical analysis, comparison, generalization, and didactic modeling. Behbudi’s textbook development activities are compared with modern principles of independent learning, identifying opportunities to enhance students’ abilities to comprehend educational texts, identify key ideas, organize information systematically, and engage in reflective evaluation. Furthermore, a staged methodological approach to organizing independent work with textbooks is proposed. The findings contribute to integrating the national pedagogical heritage with the competency-based requirements of modern higher education.
