This thesis examines the theoretical and methodological foundations and didactic potential of developing the intercultural communicative competence of pre-service teachers through the Pen Pals project. It addresses the organization of international electronic correspondence in a digital learning environment, the establishment of effective communication with representatives of different cultures, and the development of communicative tolerance and intercultural empathy. The study employs theoretical analysis of scientific literature, comparison, systematization, and pedagogical modeling. The communicative, sociocultural, reflective, and professional development potential of the Pen Pals project is identified. Furthermore, a staged methodological approach aimed at enhancing pre-service teachers’ readiness for intercultural communication is proposed. The findings may serve as a theoretical basis for designing virtual collaboration-based learning activities and developing criteria for assessing communicative competencies in higher pedagogical education institutions.
